Anna Bravesmith - Supervision

Anna Bravesmith is a Jungian analyst, member of the Society of Analytical Psychology and holds the SAP Diploma in Supervision. She has trained psychodynamic supervisors at WPF for 6 years. She is also an accredited Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy practitioner, supervisor and trainer. She has a private analytic practice in London in Highgate, for long-term patients, and has also worked for more than 15 years providing Brief Dynamic Psychotherapy in NHS in various primary care services in London. She is a highly experienced supervisor of psychotherapists and counselors and teaches at many London based training organisations. She has published papers on Supervision Theory, Brief Therapy, and Jungian Analysis. 

Becoming a supervisor: training to supervise and the complex secret of the supervisory mind

After qualifying as an analytic psychotherapist and gaining experience, one of the most interesting paths forward is to train as a supervisor and to develop an identity, which places the practitioner in a multi-dimensional world of thoughts. It’s a web of intersecting threads held together by the supervisory mind and its selected facts, kept alive through a dynamic relationship with the supervisee. This break out session will reflect on the processes and steps of supervisory training and the synergistic individuating impact on personality that occurs through it. Learning involves de-integration and re-integration and this is accompanied by psychological growing pains requiring a strong enough self to sustain each individual learner through the process. We will consider this in detail and try to gain an experiential flavour of being a trainee supervisor through exercises and dialogues.
